Beyond Gravity publishes ESG Report 2024. The leading space supplier has made significant progress in embedding sustainability and ESG principles into its global operations. From key infrastructure upgrades to critical contributions to international climate satellites, the company reaffirms its commitment to a more sustainable future - on Earth and beyond.

Whether it’s about climate change mitigation, the removal of space debris or concepts for reusable launch vehicles, Environmental, Social and Governance principles (ESG) have become increasingly important across the entire space industry.

Beyond Gravity Achieves Key Sustainability and ESG Milestones in 2024

In 2024, Beyond Gravity made significant strides in sustainability. The company published its first full ESG report and introduced a comprehensive decarbonization roadmap marking major steps toward greater transparency and climate responsibility.

Beyond Gravity also received its inaugural rating from CDP and improved its EcoVadis rating. With a CDP score of B for our climate performance, the company outperformed most industry peers. EcoVadis ratings showed notable improvements across all categories: Environment (30 to 76), Labor & Human Rights (50 to 57), Ethics (60 to 69), and Sustainable Procurement (40 to 57) – all well above industry averages. The company has been awarded the bronze medal for it. These ratings now apply to the entire group globally.

Key infrastructure upgrades underlined this commitment: the Vienna site transitioned to renewable electricity, eliminating gas heating, while new energy-efficient facilities were launched in Decatur (USA) and Linköping (Sweden). Office spaces in Zurich’s The Circle and Lisbon further set benchmarks for near-zero emission operations.

Additionally, the Lithography division, sold in late 2024, pioneered sustainable packaging initiatives, replacing plastic and expanding reusable solutions.

These achievements highlight Beyond Gravity’s dedication to building a more sustainable, future-ready organization.

Next Steps: Expanding ESG Visibility and Supply Chain Compliance

Looking ahead, Beyond Gravity plans to enhance ESG transparency across its extensive supply chain to streamline data collection from around 3,000 suppliers - enabling better oversight on topics ranging from human rights and workplace safety to environmental impact.

This effort will support compliance with upcoming regulations such as the German Supply Chain Act (LkSG) and the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

In parallel, the company is progressing steadily toward its climate goals:

  • Continuing to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions
  • Offsetting unavoidable emissions starting in 2026
  • Preparing to tackle Scope 3 emissions in the next phase

Supporting Climate Action from Space: Beyond Gravity Contributes to Key Environmental Missions in 2024

In 2024, Beyond Gravity’s space technologies played a vital role in several high-impact missions aimed at understanding and protecting our planet’s climate. Through key contributions to both NASA and European Space Agency (ESA) projects, the company continues to support global efforts to monitor environmental change from space.

In February, NASA launched the PACE (Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem) satellite to observe ocean health and air quality. Beyond Gravity contributed a high-performance navigation receiver and thermal insulation - critical components to ensure the mission’s long-term success in orbit.

In May, ESA’s EarthCARE mission lifted off to study the complex interactions between clouds, aerosols, and Earth’s radiation balance. The satellite is equipped with an onboard computer, advanced insulation systems, and solar array mechanisms developed by Beyond Gravity, enabling precise data collection for climate modeling.

Later in the year, two more European missions - Sentinel-1C and Sentinel-2C - were launched as part of the Copernicus Earth observation program. Sentinel-1C is a cutting-edge radar

satellite that provides scientists with critical insights into our changing climate and environment. Its radar system enables it to capture detailed images of Earth's surface through clouds and rain, day or night. This data is instrumental in tracking land subsidence, ice movements, and ocean conditions. Beyond Gravity played a vital role in its success, supplying the thermal insulation, an antenna, and the antenna support structure that ensures its smooth operation. Sentinel-2C, on the other hand, delivers essential data for monitoring agriculture, forestry, and natural disasters, such as floods, forest fires, landslides, and volcanic eruptions. It also observes pollution in lakes and coastal waters while keeping a watchful eye on glaciers, ice, and snow. This satellite relies on a computer system from Beyond Gravity, as well as additional electronics, including a communication and control antenna designed by Beyond Gravity.
